Electrical Engineer I

Our Opening and Your Responsibilities
The Electrical Engineer is responsible for executing, planning, and/or coordinating technical engineering activities for static and dynamic vehicle weighing projects according to their schedule and budget. The basic duties include foundational research, project and order engineering, product development, product testing, regulatory compliance, intellectual property protection, project execution according to METTLER TOLEDO Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) guidelines, and product support for industrial vehicle weighing equipment and weighing solutions. These projects may include full-length, single-axle, multi-axle, single-draft vehicle weigh-in-motion, low to high-speed vehicle weigh-in-motion, rail coupled-in-motion, and unattended weighing. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities   

  • Contributes to analyzing and solving routine problems. 
  • Conducts basic research related to new technologies, product applications, or new products.
  • Quoting of custom product requests. 
  • Support the supply chain with the sourcing of components. 
  • Works with software engineers to define hardware / firmware interfaces.
  • Works to insure DFMA.
  • Participate in main design of custom and standard Mechanical/Electrical product solutions. 
  • Provide manufacturing engineering support for the assembly, final product testing, and production problem diagnostics as required. 
  • Perform product tests and validations at MT facilities or field sites, with internal and external partners, verifying that specifications are met. 
  • Develop product drawings, documentation, bills of material, and manuals for products. 
  • Prepare technical documentation, manuals, bulletins, sales tools, and training material. 
  • Participate in new product development projects according to the METTLER TOLEDO PLM guidelines. 
  • Collaborate in the manufacture of prototype and pilot products. 
  • Align products with global compliance, safety, and cybersecurity regulations. 
  • Maintain awareness of intellectual property protection for products. 
  • Collaborate with the Service Team in the development of the product service concept. 
  • Participate in the product launch with the Product Manager and other MT marketing representatives. 
  • Participate as a sales/service/customer training instructor and/or in other sales/customer related presentations. 
  • Provide third tier active product life support for industrial vehicle weighing equipment and weighing solutions for technicians and customers. 
  • Other duties may be assigned.

What You Need to Succeed
Education, Experience & Skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Physics, or related field. Electrical Engineering preferred with mechanical and software experience considered a plus. 
Qualifications
  • May have zero experience designing circuits.
  • Fundamental knowledge of electronics engineering obtained through school. 
  • Demonstrated skill in the use of Electronic CAD tools.
  • Strong technical aptitude related to electrical and communications interconnects within industrial systems. 
  • Performs basic electrical engineering tasks.
  • Good organizational skills coordinating the work of multiple internal and external project contributors. 
  • Drives a task to completion independently given an introduction to a small task from a senior engineer.
  • Shows initiative and is motivated to learn.

Competency Level
Level 1 (Entry)
  • Entry level into the organization requiring no professional experience.
  • Assignments are designed to develop professional work knowledge and abilities.
  • Works under close supervision on required tasks. 
  • The deliverables requires continuous checks by experienced employees or mentors. 
  • Primary focus on building domain knowledge and acquiring technical skills required.
  • Ability to effectively communicate plans, proposals, results, and negotiate options.
  • Work effectively with other team members, including marketing and others from all MT business areas, in a highly variable and often stressful environment.
  • The ability to work effectively and efficiently within a globally distributed development team in clear, concise written and verbal English.

  • The employee will be required to spend most of the working day in front of a computer monitor or a several hours in meetings (sitting environments). 
  • Ability to travel long distances (12 – 14 hours) by air or automobile (without restrictions). 
  • Ability to effectively participate and communicate in a training, customer presentation or trade show environment for several hours at a time.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently within an office environment but occasional outdoor product testing or travel to customer locations (manufacturing facilities, laboratories) is required which may expose the employee to loud, continuous noise, heat, cold, dirt, fumes, heavy materials, moving mechanical parts, etc. 

Travel Requirements
This position has a travel requirement of 5% -15% including both domestic and international travel (by commercial or personal means, including economy class air travel). The ability to obtain a passport with valid visas for entry into countries throughout the world is required.
