Our Opening and Your Responsibilities
The Software Development Center (SWDC) is METTLER TOLEDO’s internal software service center supporting multiple business units with software-based solutions. 
SWDC develops secure, modern software solutions for on-premises, cloud, and mobile environments. Our multidisciplinary teams combine software engineering, system integration, robotics, automation, and technical consulting to drive innovation and digital transformation across our global organization.

For our global headquarters in Nänikon-Greifensee, we are looking for a Software Engineer Integration & Automation 100% (all genders) to join our Software Development Center and support the development of innovative software solutions connecting laboratory instruments, automation systems, robotics platforms, and enterprise applications. 
In this role, you will work closely with software development teams, requirement engineers, business stakeholders, and integration partners to design, develop, and maintain reliable integration and automation solutions with real-world impact.

Your responsibilities include:
  • Develop, maintain, and enhance laboratory software solutions around system integration, automation, and connectivity such as our LabX API based products.
  • Design, maintain, and improve laboratory automation and robotics solutions, including applications based on platforms such as ABB RobotStudio with RAPID programming.
  • Ownership of our robotic cells used for demonstration and exploration of new use cases and technical feasibility studies.
  • Collaborate with development teams on a global scale, business stakeholders, integration partners, and vendors to deliver scalable and secure solutions.
  • Provide technical consulting and engineering support for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ensure high software quality through testing, documentation, deployment, and the application of secure software development practices.
  • Support the development of advanced robotics environments, AI-enabled laboratory automation solutions, simulation environments, and customer demonstration setups across Europe.
What You Need to Succeed
Following requirements are necessary for this role:
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Several years of professional experience in software development, ideally in software engineering and system integration environments.
  • Strong object-oriented programming skills, ideally in .NET/C#, but also Web-based programming and Python.
  • Solid understanding of software engineering best practices, including source control, code reviews, coding standards, automated testing, and CI/CD processes.
  • Familiarity with REST/SOAP APIs, OPC UA, XML/JSON, cloud technologies, Docker, Kubernetes, Windows-based services and authentication technologies.
  • Ideally experience with robotics application platforms such as ABB RobotStudio, RAPID programming, ABB OmniCore systems.
  • Interest in applying modern software engineering practices, AI-assisted development tools, MCP and agent-based workflows.
  • Team player, initiative, good analytical thinking and good communication skills, ready for one or the other short travelling trip within Europe.
  • Fluent in English (oral and written); German language skills are a plus.
