Our Opening and Your Responsibilities
Role/Purpose:
The Mechanical Engineer III Service (Senior) is responsible for making significant contributions to moderately complex aspects of a project. May assist more junior staff members with aspects of their job. Understands depth of development best practices as well as the scope and relationships of large features and production stack for their area. Responsible for performing various activities in support of the engineering management function of the organization.  Designs and develops major engineering systems.  Consults with engineering management, production, sales and service to establish design concepts.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
  • Designs and develops mechanical components and systems for new and existing process control instruments, sensors, and their test systems. Ensures that all documentation is generated and in place for Production and QC to build and test the product.  
  • Works closely with manufacturing engineering, sustaining engineering and/or service organization to resolve issues with current products. 
  • Supports production staff and field service technicians to troubleshoot, analyze, and resolve design issues, as well as answer complex questions. 
  • Works as technical lead and/or project engineer with minimal supervision as part of a cross-functional product development team to develop new products, features, services, and processes. 
  • Mentors and leads less experienced engineers.
  • Works interactively with Software and Mechanical engineers and other disciplines.
  • Performs root cause analysis of system and process failures to design alternative solutions and incorporate lessons learned into feedback to Engineering Departments across multiple producing organizations 
  • Analyzes requirements and estimate efforts timeline, dependencies and risks. Investigates technical feasibility and suggest implementation options. 
  • Collaborates closely with stakeholders and other development team members.
  • Develops innovative state of the art mechanical solutions to meet project requirements.
  • Works on products which require higher level analysis such as FEA.   Provides technical input, time, and cost estimates during project specification.
  • Begins to work more with additional system level components beyond mechanical, gaining more exposure.
  • Supports product regulatory compliance.
  • Maintains highest achievable 5S ratings throughout all areas of responsibility.
  • Always considers the company Green Initiative when planning activities, procuring supplies or disposing of materials or other assets.
  • Occasional travel (up to 25% annually) for customer site surveys, off-site training or meetings, trade shows, visits with the vendors and other opportunities.

What You Need to Succeed
Knowledge, Skills, Attitude:
Able to perform complex to expert level design tasks.
Skilled to conduct intermediate-to-advanced research related to new technologies, product applications, or new products.
Able to generate CAD models, bills of material, interface specifications and other documents for new designs, may provide final approval to other's work.
Able to work closely with Manufacturing Engineering, Service, and other groups to insure DFX is incorporated into designs and processes.
Skilled to qualify and select mechanical and electro/mechanical components.
Able to hold design reviews within own area of design and participates in other design reviews.
Skilled to test/debug prototypes of new designs, verifying that specifications are met.
Able to write alpha/gamma test plans and other documentation such as hardware design specifications.
Able to provide technical expertise and leadership during beta testing.
Able to work with manufacturing and service to resolve product and process issues.
Able to work with manufacturing engineering to develop assembly procedures and QC test procedures for new designs.
Knowledge of and ability to work with regulatory compliance within own area of design.  
Ability to work as technical lead or project engineer with minimal supervision.
Able to evaluate competitive products.
Ability to participate in intra-company teams such as Audit, Safety, Recreation, and others.
Able to design products of high-level complexity from at least two value streams.
Able to act as subject matter expert for at least two value streams.
Able to display an above average understanding of all components of their product line.
Able to display basic knowledge of the product from a business perspective.
Capable of supporting Service in advanced trouble shooting.
Able to take responsibility and creates the technical design guidelines for features.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
Requires a tactful and diplomatic personality.
Strong organizational skills.
Attention to detail.
Ability to handle multiple projects and priorities.
Self-starter (can work without supervision).
Ability to consistently meet deadlines.
Experience dealing with all types of people.

This position is considered safety sensitive and is subject to drug testing as permitted by law.

Minimum Education / Experience Required:
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering.
  • Minimum of 6 to 10 years of experience designing mechanical components and systems, including sheet metal, machined and molded parts, with strong analytical skills. 
  • Proficient in the use of Mechanical CAD tools including Inventor, 3D Printing, and standard Microsoft Office tools.
  • Working experience/knowledge of product development life cycle and engineering practices.  
  • Possess systems knowledge and understanding of interaction between mechanical, electrical and software subsystems. This is a higher degree of systems expertise.
  • Ability to use root cause analysis.
  • Takes on more leadership in resolving design/product problems.
  • Works well in a dynamic, cross-functional, team environment.
