Our Opening and Your Responsibilities
Role/Purpose:
The Mechanical Engineer II is responsible for performing various activities in support of the engineering management function of the organization.  Designs and develops major engineering systems.  Consults with engineering management, production, and sales to establish design concepts. Exposure to some of the complex tasks within the job function. Has mastered most of the basic job duties. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
  • Designs and develops mechanical components and systems for new and existing products. 
  • Ensures that all documentation is generated and in place for Production and Quality to build and test the product. 
  • Works closely with manufacturing engineering and/or sustaining engineering to resolve issues with current products. 
  • Works well in a dynamic, cross-functional, team environment. 
  • Works as project engineer or technical lead on small scope projects, with supervision.  
  • Works with production and vendors to understand process capabilities and develop ideas that reduce costs and improve quality
  • Has gained exposure to some of the complex tasks including working with Software and Electrical Engineers and other disciplines.
  • Develops solutions to meet project requirements with focus on mechanical components and systems.
  • May work on products which require higher level analysis such as FEA.
  • Takes responsibility and creates the technical design for small features.
  • Maintains highest achievable 5S ratings throughout all areas of responsibility.
  • Always considers the company Green Initiative when planning activities, procuring supplies or disposing of materials or other assets.
  • Adheres to the Code of Conduct of the organization.
  • Other duties and tasks as assigned.

What You Need to Succeed
Knowledge, Skills, Attitude:
  • Ability to perform mid to complex level design tasks.
  • Conducts basic-to-intermediate level research related to new technologies, product applications, or new products.
  • Generates CAD models, bills of material, interface specifications and other documents for new designs, with minimal supervision and final approval from more senior staff.
  • Works closely with Manufacturing Engineering, Service, and other groups to insure DFX is incorporated into designs and processes.
  • Qualifies and selects mechanical and electro/mechanical components.
  • Holds design reviews within own area of design and participates in other design reviews.
  • Tests/debugs prototypes of new designs, verifying that specifications are met.
  • Writes alpha/gamma test plans and other documentation such as hardware design specifications.
  • Provides technical oversite during beta testing, with full ownership of process.
  • Works with manufacturing and service to resolve product and process issues.
  • Works with manufacturing engineering to develop assembly procedures and QC test procedures for new designs.
  • Assists with regulatory compliance within own area of design.
  • Works as technical lead or project engineer on small scope projects, with supervision.
  • Evaluates competitive products.
  • Participates in intra-company teams such as Audit, Safety, Recreation, and others.
  • Understands product components.                                                     
  • Designs products of high-level complexity of his value stream
  • Designs products of mid-level complexity of another value stream 
  • Shows advance capabilities to design products for X                     
  • Capable to support the Floor in advanced trouble shooting 
  • Shows initiative and offers assistance when needed without being asked. 
  • Guides entry-level engineers. 
  • Constructively escalates problems and issues.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Requires a tactful and diplomatic personality.
  • Strong organizational skills

  • Ability to handle multiple projects and priorities
  • Self-starter (can work without supervision)
  • Ability to consistently meet deadlines
**This position is considered safety sensitive and is subject to drug testing as permitted by law.**

Minimum Education / Experience Required:
  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering 
  • 3 – 7 years of experience designing mechanical components and systems.  
  • Experience with Engineering change management (ECM)
  • Experience designing mechanical components and systems, including sheet metal and machined parts.
  • Experience designing for industrial or commercial products.
  • Proficient in the use of Mechanical CAD tools including Inventor, 3D printing, and standard Microsoft Office tools.
  • Working knowledge of product development life cycle and engineering practices.
