Our Opening and Your Responsibilities
This R&D Software Engineer role is part of the Mettler-Toledo Thornton R&D team, developing industry leading measurement instrumentation, and delivering robust, online, real-time, and continuous performance for process control of pure and ultrapure water applications. 

In this function, you will develop new analyzer/sensor technologies and architectures for purified water analysis, develop, advance, and implement signal processing solutions, support the team in the selection of suitable software and hardware platforms for analyzer and sensor technologies, provide ongoing support for existing product portfolio, and participate in the successful transfer of new products to our Operations team. 

A successful candidate for this role works well in a small group with a dynamic cross-functional team environment spanning electrical, microbiology, optical, software, mechanical, and chemical engineering backgrounds. The team is distributed across three sites (Billerica, MA; Tucson, AZ; Mumbai, India), with this position located on-site in Billerica. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Working as a project engineer or technical lead as part of a cross-functional product development team to develop, debug, test, and maintain software for new products, features, services, and processes. 
  • Conducting basic-to-advanced research related to new technologies, product applications, or new products. 
  • Developing software to assist R&D efforts. 
  • Testing/debugging prototypes of new designs, verifying that technical specifications are met. 
  • Ensuring that software is properly documented for maintenance and understanding by peers. 
  • Using standard software repositories for proper revision control of production and development code. 
  • Managing bugs/new feature request repository for products in company portfolio. 
  • Participating in root cause investigations related to product/process issues and implement solutions.
What You Need to Succeed
  • Bachelor's degree in software engineering, computer science, math, or other related engineering discipline. Equivalent work experience will be accepted. 
  • Minimum 3 years of embedded systems development experience. 
  • Programming experience using Python, C, C++, and assembly language for embedded platforms. 
  • Experience with Xilinx Petalinux or Yocto and/or embedded Linux is highly desirable, embedded Windows is a plus. 
  • Experience writing embedded code for 8/16/32-bit microcontrollers such as ARM-based MCU, AVR, TI, MSP430, PIC, 8051, or others using Keli, IAR, or similar IDE. 
  • Working knowledge of TCP/IP, UDP, Ethernet, TS232, RS485, UART, I2C, SPI communication protocols and standards. 
  • Strong understanding of embedded hardware/software systems and debugging techniques. Experience using emulators, simulators, debuggers, EE tools, scopes, analyzers, programmers, and reading schematics for real-time development and verification of embedded software.
