Process Improvement Engineering Intern

Our Opening and Your Responsibilities
Role Purpose:
Support the evaluation and enhancement of manufacturing processes using Lean tools and concepts to improve product design, equipment effectiveness, workflow, and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist in designing and optimizing manufacturing processes, layouts, and equipment to boost efficiency and reduce waste.
  • Support Lean initiatives and kaizens across departments (Manufacturing, Engineering, CI, Sales).
  • Develop, maintain, and train on manufacturing work instructions for all product lines.
  • Provide daily shop floor support, resolving process and production challenges.
  • Act as liaison between Engineering and Manufacturing to troubleshoot and streamline production.
  • Collaborate on value stream mapping, 5S, SMED, and other Lean tools to drive continuous improvement.
  • Contribute to cost savings and process optimization through data-driven analysis and cross-functional teamwork.
  • Assist in maintaining master production data, work center routing, and layout design.
What You Need to Succeed
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Strong team player with excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Self-motivated and effective in cross-functional collaboration
  • Knowledge of fabrication processes (welding, machining, metal forming, polishing) preferred
  • Background in Industrial, Manufacturing, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and mechanical design software (Inventor, SolidWorks)
  • Familiar with Lean principles (Continuous Flow, 5S, VSM, Kaizen)

This position is considered safety sensitive and is subject to drug testing as permitted by law.

Minimum Education / Experience Required:
  • Associates degree in Technical related discipline AND 1-3 years of relevant experience in similar environment
or
  • Rated as a Production Technician Specialist III or Production Lead I based on our PIUS-PO’s Manufacturing Training/Skills Matrix
