Our Opening and Your Responsibilities
An exciting new opportunity has arisen for a highly skilled Lead Software Engineer to join a leading global supplier of industrial equipment to the food and beverage market, based in Salford.  You will report directly to the Software Development Manager and will be responsible for setting the technological direction for a major platform as the company aims to build on its new generation products.

The role requires strong people skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a larger multi-disciplined team.  Collaboration with an international Linux platform development team will be essential to ensure the future success of the product.

The role will involve working with the latest tools and technologies.

What You'll Do
  • Provide technical leadership, advice and guidance to the development team (who are currently developing for a Windows environment) on developing for Linux.
  • Liaise with dedicated remote platform development team to ensure platform developments align with application development requirements.
  • Ensure application development team are kept up to date with platform developments.
  • Work closely and collaboratively with the applications team leader and other team members to develop the platform architecture and application to work on, and take advantage of, a Debian-based Linux platform.
  • Elicit requirements from key stakeholders, generate software requirements and technical specification documents, seek clarification as and where necessary.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation using defined technical documentation templates & techniques.
  • Maintain watching brief on development of new technologies, techniques and methodologies. 
  • Identify and correct reported defects in collaboration with the Software Test Team.
What You Need to Succeed
  • Bachelor's degree in electronics, physics or another relevant engineering related degree
  • Hands-on experience of developing commercial object-oriented applications using a C-like language, ideally C++ or C#
  • experience in developing for embedded Linux systems and in-depth knowledge of system architecture design.
  • Experience of developing for a resource-constrained embedded platform.
  • Experience of developing large applications using git version control.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability travel as individual projects necessitate (minimal and infrequent)
