Our Opening and Your Responsibilities
Mettler-Toledo is seeking a Product Design Engineer for its Worthington, OH location.  The Standard Industrial Engineering team designs and develops hardware and software for Mettler Toledo global Standard Industrial products. This team requires a contributing Project Engineer to develop Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) interface specifications, create PLC sample code, and support with development of functional test requirements for PLC interface testing. This position requires interface with a range of technical and marketing personnel – including internal MT customers, external MT customers, and end users. This person will use personal understanding of PLC systems (both hardware and software) to translate marketing and user requirements into industry standard technical specifications and develop PLC sample code and support tools based on these specifications.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Creation of Marketing and Engineering Design specifications for products. Designs and develops hardware and software for global Standard Industrial products, including terminals (IND 780, 360) and new products (IND 700, 500x).
  • Provide technical support for Product Managers, technicians, and customers for the Industrial Weighing terminals product line. Support for products in the market, with specific interfaces. Customer support for PLC fieldbus, network and general terminal support.
  • Development of technical documentation, bulletins, and writing test cases and sample code. Develop PLC interface specifications, create PLC sample code, and support with development of functional test requirements for PLC interface testing, SAI and legacy formats.
  • Manage product performance testing and product regulatory compliance. Will work with Rockwell and Modicon PLC hardware and software platforms including PLC fieldbus communications via EtherNET/IP, ModTCP, EtherCAT, and Remote I/O.
  • Act as Technical liaison between the Product & Market Support team and the design engineering teams at Worthington, Albstadt, and China. This position requires interface with a range of technical and marketing personnel.
  • Provide Maintenance of line support regarding product design, quality, and other issues as required for the Industrial Weighing Terminals product line.
  • Manage Engineering Change Notices, Engineering Releases, and Quality Notifications. Use personal understanding of PLC systems (both hardware and software) to translate marketing and user requirements into industry standard technical specifications and develop PLC sample code and support tools based on these specifications.

What You Need to Succeed
REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

Must have a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or closely related field and 3 years of related experience, which must include:
  • Control System design and PLC software development and systems; and
  • Design and review of electrical schematics for machine control and interface.
Required experience must also include 2 years of experience in the following areas:
  • Using common hand tools, DVM oscilloscope, soldering iron and other electrical test equipment.
  • Studio 5000, CompactLogix, FactoryTalk View Studio, HMI, SCADA, Carel c.suite programming.
  • Rockwell and Modicon PLC hardware and software platforms including PLC communications via EtherNET/IP, ModTCP, EtherCAT, and Remote I/O.
  • Developing PLC programs in RS Logix (Modbus or CClink).
  • Writing PLC system test requirements.
  • Experience in .NET development environment / C#, C++, C / Windows / Windows CE. 
  • Defining software requirements and documenting software designs.
  • ST-Structural Text, HTML, JavaScript, Node.Js, Python, web development, GitHub; and
  • Mitsubishi, TCPIP, Serial communication: RS-232/RS-485.
